The Reciprocal Access Agreement (RAA) between Japan and Australia is set to become effective on August 13, 2023, following the exchange of diplomatic notes between the two countries on August 8, as announced by the Japanese Foreign Ministry. The RAA, signed in January 2022, enables advanced defense and security cooperation by permitting joint military drills, maneuvers, air-to-air refueling exercises, and the stationing of troops in each other's territories.
