US Air Force electronic warfare commander seeks spectrum dominance
The U.S. military has activated the 350th Spectrum Warfare Wing, a first-of-its-kind entity focused on spectrum dominance and electronic warfare equipment. The wing's primary missions include rapid reprogramming, target waveform development, and assessment of spectrum-related activities. With the increasing importance of the electromagnetic spectrum in potential conflicts with peer competitors like China and Russia, the wing aims to rebuild the U.S.'s electronic warfare "muscle memory" and achieve electromagnetic superiority. The wing emphasizes joint and coalition efforts, recognizing that adversaries like China and Russia are also investing heavily in electronic warfare capabilities and data-centric warfare. The U.S. military is seeking to improve its offensive capabilities, protect critical networks, foster widespread connectivity through Joint All-Domain Command and Control (JADC2) and Advanced Battle Management System (ABMS), and utilize cognitive electronic warfare in the future.
