Indonesia buys 12 drones worth $300 million from Turkey

Published on August 2, 2023

The Indonesian government has purchased 12 drones from Turkish Aerospace for $300 million, as part of its efforts to strengthen the country's defense system. The deal, signed in February, aims to enhance the variety, quantity, and quality of Indonesia's military equipment, with the ANKA drones set to be delivered before November 2025. Earlier, Indonesia also signed a deal to buy 12 Mirage 2000-5 fighter jets from French company Dassault Aviation for $805 million, which was criticized due to the age of the equipment. However, the Defence Ministry justified the purchase, citing the need for quick delivery to address the decline in the combat readiness of the air force caused by aging existing aircraft. Additionally, Indonesia has agreed to purchase 42 units of Dassault Rafale fighter aircraft, with the first three expected to arrive in January 2026.
