US Army may ask defense industry to disclose AI algorithms

As the US Army and the US Department of Defense are increasingly investing in AI technologies to enhance autonomous systems and other capabilities, there is increased attention to the safety and security aspects of those technologies. Similar to supply chains covering, for example, semiconductors, components and subcomponents, where (cyber)security risks are already scrutinized, the idea is to put in place similar checks and balances for software, data and AI. 

Part of this AI ‘bill of materials’ may be the obligation of vendors and contractors to disclose the working of their AI algorithms and find any potential cybersecurity weak spots.
