New Zealand seeks industry input for maritime helicopters, drones
Published on April 28, 2023
New Zealand’s military issues a request for information for naval helicopters and aerial drones. The information will be used to replace the eight Kaman SH-2G(I) Seasprite helicopters that are currently operated by the Royal New Zealand Navy.
The effort is consistent with New Zealand’s objective in the Defence Force’s 2019 annual report to replace the military’s maritime helicopter fleet by 2027 to avoid a ‘capability gap.’ The open tender does not specify exactly which kinds of uncrewed aerial systems (UAS) the Navy wishes to replace its helicopters with, but the replacement program is estimated to cost NZ$1 billion (USD $616 million).
