Egypt launches charter for the responsible use of AI
Egypt’s National Council for Artificial Intelligence (AI) launches a charter for the responsible use of AI. The document comes amid a flurry of regulatory activity regarding AI globally and is aimed at both commercial and defense sectors.
The charter puts forward five principles for the development and implementation of AI: human-centered design, transparency, justice, accountability, and security. Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Amr Talaat, emphasizes that the charter serves a two-pronged purpose: First, of informing citizens on responsible AI’s governing frameworks and for all stakeholders to be aware of the ethical considerations related to AI as they integrate it into their planning. Second, to lay out a set of standards to attract investment. The document notably links the human-centeredness principle to defense uses of AI.
