NSA Cybersecurity Director Says ‘Buckle Up’ for Generative AI
Published on April 28, 2023
The United States National Security Agency’s cybersecurity director Rob Joyce observes at the RSA security conference in San Francisco that generative AI has immediate security and defense implications. ‘I think we’ve all seen the explosion,’ Joyce says. ‘I won’t say it’s delivered yet, but this truly is some game-changing technology.’
The threats of generative AI in the hands of bad actors, specifically, go beyond simple phishing scams and rise to a level of plausibility with ChatGPT-type tools that threaten existing security infrastructure. He notes, however, that generative AI and big data analytics can aid the security and defense community by acting as an ‘accelerant for defense.’
