Russian conglomerate develops AI communications for fifth-gen aircraft
Russia-based and state-owned defense conglomerate Rostec develops an artificial intelligence-powered communications system for fifth-generation combat aircraft. The Sukhoi Su-57 stealth fighter, specifically, is now the latest beneficiary of AI-enabled defense technology.
The AI integrated onboard the Sukhoi is claimed to ensure the reliability of information transmission through ‘noise-immune coding,’ the simultaneous transmission of messages over parallel channels, and an increase in the range of stable communication, among other features. While the Sukhoi Su-57 has been deployed by Russia in its war against Ukraine, Russia’s shortcircuited access to equipment critical for scaling the application of such an AI-powered communication system ‘reduces Rostec’s AI application to impotence.’
