AALTO HAPS and Space Compass Strengthen Strategic HAPS Partnership by Signing Contract for 2023 Flight

United Kingdom-based AALTO HAPS and Tokyo-based Space Compass of Japan strengthen their strategic partnership. The new contract brings the two companies together for a proof of concept demonstration flight of AALTO’s Zephyr High Altitude Platform Station (HAPS).

This year, AALTO plans to fly a Zephyr Z8B equipped with a mobile communications payload during a stratospheric flight. The aim is to demonstrate the full operability of a solar-electric ‘tower in the sky.’ Space Compass will join AALTO by advancing the development of a communications and earth observation service using HAPS. The project will begin in Japan as part of a vision to establish a ‘Space Integrated Computing Network.’
