French forces prep for final phase of major multidomain exercise

French forces are preparing to enter the final phase of a new, multidomain military exercise called Orion 2023. The exercise is intended to provide troops with a ‘realistic warfighting scenario.’

Orion integrates and draws from roughly 20 separate events and includes allies such as the United States, Germany, Greece, and Spain. It is inspired by a NATO exercise scenario in which forces must ‘restore security in the state of ‘Arnland.’ Orion notably possesses a range of technological components such as the use of about 100 uncrewed aerial vehicles (UAVs), inclusive of two MQ-9 Reaper UAVs and 20 space-borne sensors. Electromagnetic and informational capabilities are also leveraged.
