US Navy aims to field manned-unmanned fleet within 10 years

The United States Navy sets out a vision to operate a fleet of crewed and uncrewed platforms within the next 10 years. The plan, according to Vice Adm. Scott Conn, comes as the Navy rapidly tests and integrates limited but ambitious forms of autonomous and AI-enabled maritime systems with its conventional forces.
Early uses of uncrewed aerial vehicles (UAVs), uncrewed underwater vehicles (UUVs), and uncrewed surface vehicles (USVs), Conn emphasized, ‘will likely be tethered to a manned platform’ as the Navy learns how to trust these developing technologies. He indicates that there is a lot of work to do in the way of trusting that these systems are ‘obedient’ once they are free of direct human control.
