Top cyber general rejects Elon Musk’s call for artificial intelligence pause

The Pentagon was quick to respond to the Steve Wozniak and Elon Musk backed open letter from the Future of Life Institute calling for, ‘...all AI labs to immediately pause for at least 6 months the training of AI systems more powerful than GPT-4.’ U.S. Cyber Command General Paul Nakasone stated that the U.S. only has a ‘tenuous’ advantage in artificial intelligence and machine learning over China that would quickly be lost if Silicon Valley halts development.

Also in response to the open letter, tech entrepreneur and former Air Force/Space Force chief software officer, Nicolas Chaillan, wrote, ‘All this would do is ensure that Europe and the United States lose 20 years of competition against China.’ Chilean goes on to claim how a moratorium like this would only benefit the Chinese Communist Party and hurt the United States.
