US, Saudi Arabia complete first counter-drone exercise at Red Sands testing facility
Published on March 31, 2023
The United States and Saudi Arabia complete the two states’ first joint counter-uncrewed aerial system (C-UAS) exercise. The exercise took place at the Red Sands Experimentation Center in Riyadh, a fledging launching point for ‘training and readiness between Washington and its Middle East partners.’
Head of United States Central Command (CENTCOM) Gen. Erik Kurilla told US lawmakers the C-UAS drills involved live-fire exercises and explored other pathways for counter-drone solutions. The exercise concludes just before an Iranian drone strike kills one American contractor and soon after China and Saudia Arabia increase their technology and security cooperation.
