India, US Announce Initiative On Critical and Emerging Technologies

The announcement of the US-India Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technologies (iCET) deepens relations between the two states and expands defense technology cooperation. Widely seen as a counter to Chinese military modernization and increasing tensions in the Indo-Pacific, iCET aims to ‘facilitate outcome-oriented cooperation.’

Cooperation is organized around a range of sensitive fields including artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and semiconductors and joint defense production, among others. iCET is supported by resource sharing, intragovernmental administration, academic exchange, and industry outreach.
