Published on March 27, 2023
Japan has developed its first indigenously produced quantum computer through Tokyo’s Riken Research Institute. This represents Japan’s entry into the budding international quantum computer competition. Countries like the United States, China, and now Japan have hopes of both economic and national security advantages through quantum computing.
Using quantum mechanics, computers like this one developed by Riken, ‘make it easier to decipher current encryptions used on the internet and in finances.’ Moreover, some are concerned that quantum computers could be used to decode national security secrets.
