Inside Ukraine’s scramble for ‘’game-changer’ drone fleet

Ukraine is expanding its drone program to ‘narrow the yawning gap’ between its capabilities and Russia’s. To do so, it is bringing together former Microsoft executives, engineers, and commercial actors to upgrade its drones.

Ukraine’s Armed Forces eye uncrewed aerial vehicles (UAVs) with larger payloads or capable of traveling long distances. UAV support for reconnaissance, in addition to conducting attacks, ‘are potentially a game-changer on the battlefield,’ according to Ukraine's Defence Minister Oleksii Reznikov. Ukraine’s government has said it will spend roughly USD $550 million on drones in 2023.
