NATO preps tech competition to solve real-world security issues

NATO is preparing to set up ‘competition-style programs’ for its Defence Innovation Accelerator for the North Atlantic (DIANA). The move comes as the alliance is reorienting itself towards the development and acquisition of critical technologies including ‘artificial intelligence, big-data processing, energy and propulsion, autonomy, space, biotechnology, hypersonics, and quantum.’

Just as notably, the alliance is also establishing 28 ‘deep-tech test centers.’ The footprints of NATO’s emerging and disruptive technology efforts are thus peppered throughout Europe and North America, with national and international test center integration planned by several members.
