Soldiers Can Now Steer Robot Dogs With Brain Signals

Published on March 24, 2023

New research published by Australian scientists in Applied Nano Materials documents a human test subject guiding the movements of ground robots through brain signals. The test subject visualized the movements through a Microsoft HoloLens, an augmented / mixed reality headset.

The apparent breakthrough follows successes in brain-computer interfaces over the years through defense agencies like the United States’ DARPA. This latest work suggests that these interfaces can now operate, in some capacity, outside of laboratory settings, including with robotics dogs. The Australian military is working with the researchers on the newest system.
