Plans to make UK an international technology superpower launched
Published on March 22, 2023
The United Kingdom releases its International Technology Strategy. It charts out a path for the UK to become a ‘tech superpower by 2030,’ with significant implications for its defense industry.
The Strategy aims to achieve three objectives: to articulate how the UK can leverage emerging technologies while ‘countering malign influences on tech’; to establish new tech envoys and a new Technology Centre of Expertise; and to focus on the five critical technologies of artificial intelligence, quantum, semiconductors, telecoms, and bioengineering. The Strategy describes the impacts of AI as ‘profound.’ These actions come as the UK seeks to position itself in a manner suitable to the future of defense innovation.
