Allies take further steps to establish NATO Innovation Fund
Published on March 20, 2023
NATO officially appoints its first three members to the NATO Innovation Fund (NIF) Board of Directors. They include the Chair, Dr. Klaus Hommels, in addition to Dame Fiona Murray and Dr. Roberto Cingolani. A total of nine members is planned.
The alliance also announces that the Netherlands will host the ‘management arm’ of NIF, with a number of regional offices envisioned across the alliance. Members of the alliance act as ‘Limited Partners’ in NIF, with the Fund itself structured as a ‘financial partnership.’ It will invest EUR €1 billion in early-stage startups working on ‘emerging and disruptive technologies’ along with investment in venture capital funds developing ‘dual-use and disruptive technologies (deep tech).’
