Angola getting Aksungur UAVs from Turkey
Published on March 20, 2023
Angola orders Aksungur medium-altitude, long-endurance uncrewed aerial vehicles (UAVs) from Turkish Aerospace Industries. It is the first confirmed African state to make such a purchase. The contract, going back to October 2022, is worth a total of USD $93 million.
Production on the Aksungurs has begun, but deliveries have not yet started. At least 8 such UAVs have been manufactured, with another 6 on the production line. Aksungurs possess day and night intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities. They can also conduct strike missions using ‘electro-optical/infrared and synthetic aperture radar (SAR) payloads,’ as well as air-to-ground weapons.
