Japanese Company Creates Float Plane Drone

Japan-based aerospace solution provider Space Entertainment Laboratory creates an uncrewed aerial ‘float’ plane. It comes in both small and medium sizes. The Hamadori Seaplane - an uncrewed aerial vehicle (UAV) - was unveiled at DSEI Japan 2023.

Designed with Japan’s geography in mind, and in particular, its relative lack of flat lands, the Hamadori can be ‘loaded and launched from small boats.’ Notably, it can ‘land and take off with waves of up to six feet,’ according to Takenori Hashimoto, lead of research and development. Hashimoto also noted that the Japanese Navy and Coast Guard have experimented with the float plane but have not yet made a decision on whether they will acquire it.
