Reinforcing the MQ-4C maritime ISR capability

Uncrewed aerial vehicles (UAVs) are proving increasingly effective in ‘attritional zones of war.’ Demonstrated most prominently by the war in Ukraine, UAVs can be used for target acquisition, providing intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR), and ‘harassing’ ground-based targets.

United States-based Northrop Grumman’s MQ-4C Triton uncrewed aerial system (UAS) provides some of these capabilities in the context of maritime domain awareness. Its ‘autonomous operations’ are notably being recruited and integrated by the United States Navy and the Royal Australian Navy. Both services will use the Tritons to share data and coordinate within a critical maritime ISR network.
