Sensors Key Part of New U.K.-Japan-Italy Fighter Jet Program
Published on March 15, 2023
The sixth-generation aircraft program led by the United Kingdom, Japan, and Italy - known as the Global Combat Air Program (GCAP) - is envisioned to include high-tech sensors. Industry representatives revealed these and other details at DSEI Japan 2023.
The event’s Mitsubishi Electric representative, Masahiro Arai, noted the increasing share of electronics in sixth-generation aircraft compared to those past, in terms of both costs and capabilities. The collective aim of industry partners is to make GCAP each fighter a ‘flying sensor platform,’ according to coverage of the event. The collection, processing, prioritization, and dissemination of information will be governed by ‘smart processing algorithms.’
