China has created a new, high-level, body to oversee the country’s science and technology efforts. The committee, the Central Science and Technology Commission, comes alongside an increased focus, and more centralized control over research, on key dual-use technologies such as artificial intelligence and semiconductor production.

Some believe that this push could indicate that China has been falling behind in that regard, despite increased investment.
