Canada to buy anti-tank weapon, counter-drone tech for unit in Latvia
Published on March 13, 2023
The Canadian military is fast-tracking the purchase of new anti-tank missiles, air defense systems, and counter-uncrewed aerial systems (UAS) equipment. The acquisitions are for Canada’s NATO battlegroup stationed in Latvia.
Canadian Defence Minister Anita Anand noted that these acquisitions have become operational requirements in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The acquisition of C-UAS will be used to combat ‘small drones,’ with a request for information sent to defense and aerospace firms by the Counter Uncrewed Aircraft System program on March 2, 2023. Budget details have not yet been released.
