German Navy Mulling Drone-Heavy Force Structure Looking Towards 2035 And Beyond

Germany’s Bundeswehr mistakenly published a ‘comprehensive document’ on their website detailing early plans for a new, drone-heavy force posture for the German Navy. The planned force structure is targeted for 2035.

The ‘Zielbild der Marine ab 2035’ (Target posture of the Navy from 2035) places renewed emphasis on the North Atlantic, North Sea, and Baltic Sea. Drone-based operations that have uncrewed systems complementing crewed platforms for aerial, surface, and underwater warfare are envisioned in a new era of peer-to-peer rivalry.
