Thales Alenia Space initiates EuroHAPS project

Thales Alenia Space - the joint venture between France-based Thales and Italy-based Leonardo - begins. The venture seeks to carry out the European High-Altitude Platform Systems (EuroHAPS) project.

The project brings together 21 partners and 18 subcontractors under the coordination of Thales Alenia Space. Their aim is to deliver three ‘point of flight demonstrations’ of ‘stratospheric platforms.’ These platforms will take the forms of Thales Alenia Space’s Stratobus concept, a Hybrid High Altitude Airship (HHAA, or ‘tactical HAPS’), and an Autonomous Stratospheric Balloon System (ASBaS). These platforms are designed with defense purposes and requirements in mind.
