USAF wants 200 sixth-generation fighters and 1,000 unmanned combat aircraft by 2030

During a keynote address at the Air & Space Forces Association’s Warfare Symposium, Secretary of the United States Air Force Frank Kendall noted that the Air Force plans to have 200 sixth-generation Next Generation Air Dominance fighters and 1,000 Collaborative Combat Aircraft operational by the 2030s.

According to the event’s coverage, Kendall emphasizes the ‘affordable mass and dramatically increased cost effectiveness’ of the planned acquisitions. Much surrounding the sixth-generation fighters is unknown while the development of Collaborative Combat Aircraft is still in its early stages. The goal of the Air Force remains, however, one of increased human-machine teaming depending on timeframes of technological maturation.
