Defence signs on to university-led artificial intelligence research
Published on March 9, 2023
The Australian Department of Defence commits a total of $1.746 million to fund two artificial intelligence research projects. The projects will be carried out by the University of South Australia and Deakin University.
The goal of the projects is to learn how ‘to process noisy and dynamic data into information and help inform military decision making.’ The funding is intended to rapidly establish the creation of prototypes for defense capabilities in the near-term. Chief Defence Scientist Professor Tanya Monro also noted the related importance of researching robotics, autonomous systems, and AI for Australian defense.
