US Army conducts first sUAS Tranche 2 SRR prototype test

The United States Army executes the maiden prototype test flight of a soldier uncrewed aerial system (sUAS) within the Tranche 2 (T2) short-range reconnaissance (SRR) effort.

The test comes as the Army seeks a new sUAS platform for soldiers to enhance their tactical capabilities on the battlefield. Several vendors participated in the test, including Utah-based Teal Drones’ Golden Eagle MK2. The Army was specifically interested in gauging the sUAS’s operational range, flight control, day and night-time obstacle avoidance, and advanced autonomy capabilities.
