Does Technology Win Wars?

The United States defense industrial base has become a focal point recently as arms shipments to Ukraine reveal suboptimal defense production and acquisition. Jacquelyn Schneider argues that years of clouded judgments in defense technology acquisition have led to this point.

In contrast to existing arrangements, she argues that the US needs to ‘complement complex, high-cost technology with cheaper autonomous sensors, communications relays, munitions, and decoys.’ Pointing to the several different, indirect ways in which technological advancement changes war - with the battlefield being just one area of change - Schneider implores America to ‘consider the economic impact of technology.’
