‘Smaller, better, cheaper’ — the rise of portable drone interceptors
Published on February 20, 2023
Increasing demand for counter-uncrewed aerial systems (C-UAS) is leading manufacturers to simplify and miniaturize their products.
Recent conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, according to some companies like Fortem Technology, have shifted focus on drone technology from ‘fixed solutions’ to ‘on the move’ systems providing advanced radar detection capabilities, ease of deployment, and low cost of operation and cost per use. Australia-based DroneShield provides these sorts of C-UAS: easily transported, lightweight, and powered by swappable batteries. As demand persists, tradeoffs between size and capabilities will be confronted by players in this field.
