Mariotti-DRASS contract with the Italian Navy

Part of the Italian Navy’s efforts to support underwater operations, such as protecting critical underwater infrastructure, is the acquisition of the Special and Diving Operations – Submarine Rescue Ship, or SDO-SuRS. Provision has been arranged with shipbuilders T. Mariotti and the DRASS Group.

The SDO-SuRS is an advanced platform equipped with, among other assets, remote-operated vehicles (ROVs) and autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs). The decision to develop and deploy the SDO-SuRS comes as the Italian Ministry of Defence (MoD) seeks to step up its efforts in the domain of ‘seabed warfare,’ in part through the integration of emerging technologies with naval systems.
