Italian MoD studies underwater manned-unmanned platforms integration for ‘Seabed warfare’
Published on February 17, 2023
The Italian Ministry of Defence (MoD) is exploring the integration of uncrewed underwater vehicles (UUVs) with near-future submarine platforms for ‘seabed warfare’ operations. The MoD’s Naval Armament Directorate makes public a notice of preliminary market consultation highlighting its interest in awarding a contract to study this integration.
The Italian MoD wishes to integrate autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) and remote operated vehicles (ROVs) with its near-future seabed warfare operations. They are interested in monitoring the seabed and underwater infrastructure in addition to deploying ‘action systems’ in support of ongoing operations. The contract is worth €3.5 million (or approximately $3.7 million) and is slated for 18 months.
