Dutch host first summit on 'responsible' use of AI in the military

Delegations from 50 countries are attending REAIM 2023 - a summit on the “responsible” uses of AI in military affairs hosted in the Netherlands and co-hosted by South Korea. 2,000 experts and academics are also in attendance. It is the first event of its kind.

While the conference may not result in a statement of principles agreed upon by the countries represented, the event takes place during heightened interest in the applications of AI for security and military affairs. Dutch Foreign Minister Wopke Hoekstra emphasizes that REAIM’s focus is intrinsically ethical by ‘taking the first step in articulating and working toward what responsible use of AI in the military will be.’
