Swedish Industry Eyes NATO Boost

As Sweden looks forward to attaining the 30 votes needed for accession into NATO, the Swedish defense industry sees an opportunity for expansion.

Before applying for membership in NATO, Sweden developed advanced technical and engineering capabilities in support of its independent defense policies. Sweden’s cutting-edge industry - in advanced submarines, combat aircraft, missiles, and surface ships, among other areas - is ripe for integration into the military alliance. Swedish defense contractor Saab, for example, announces its new Autonomous and Underseas Systems division in anticipation of NATO integration.
