What’s Going On Up There? Theories but No Answers in Shootdowns of Mystery Craft.
Following a flurry of unidentified flying objects appearing over North American airspace last week, US intelligence and military officials have offered up theories of the origins and purposes of the foreign crafts.
Officials are largely in consensus that the original balloon was sent by China and meant to conduct surveillance on American military bases. Some officials believe the following aerial crafts were sent by China or Russia to test American intelligence-gathering capabilities and track how long the US military would respond to the incursion. In an effort to monitor North American skies more closely, Canada and the United States will be investing in 'new over-the-horizon radar' and 'artificial intelligence systems to help pick out possible intrusions.'
