Nato unveils initiative to expedite development of new technologies

NATO is prepared to launch a new initiative designed to preserve the alliance's edge in military technology. The new initiative, based on the charter of the Defence Innovation Accelerator for the North Atlantic (DIANA), will allow defense personnel to work with he alliance’s scientific researchers, technology companies, and start-ups.

The primary focus of DIANA is acquiring emerging and disruptive technologies including AI, big data analytics, and autonomy, among others. Alongside this effort, NATO members agreed to also establish a multilateral NATO Innovation Fund (NIF). NIF will also be tasked with acquiring emerigng technologies for the alliance by investing in early-stage startups and other deep tech funds.
