German-based sensor solutions company HENSOLDT is awarded a contract worth approximately €100 million by the French procurement authority DGA related to the Future Combat Air System (FCAS) project. Specifically, HENSOLDT is tasked with developing core competencies in radar, reconnaissance and self-protection electronics, optronics, and the overarching networking of sensor technology.
The networking of the FCAS’s sensor technology will be AI-enabled. The European initiative has so far placed significant emphasis on ensuring that AI is leveraged for data analytics onboard these future aircraft as well as in coordination with other units. This AI-based networking will be platform-independent and useable across multiple applications.
