General Atomics’ Gambit moves to flight testing under AFRL’s autonomous drone project
Published on February 8, 2023
General Atomic’s Gambit Drone is nearing a test by the US Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL). Gambit Series aircraft are being designed to have high levels of autonomy, be able to fly far beyond the lines of sight of fourth- and fifth-generation aircraft while sending back targeting data, and are expected to come equipped with an ‘exquisite sensor suite.’
Successful demonstrations of Gambit drones will ‘validate’ AFRL’s concept of low-cost, autonomous, collaborative, and expendable aircraft. General Atomics’ competitor Kratos is also working with the Air Force on classified uncrewed aircraft projects.
