
India to boost defense spending by 13%, with billions for new weapons

India is setting aside 1.62 trillion rupees (or $19.64 billion) to purchase new weapons and platforms from domestic defense contractors. The spending is allotted for the 2023-2024 period.
The Indian Ministry of Defense (MoD) has notably increased the capital outlays for the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force (in varying degrees). Among the purchases planned by the services are drones, anti-drone systems, and uncrewed aerial vehicles (UAVs). Defense-related research and development stand at 232.64 billion rupees.
