Japan, Netherlands to join U.S. in restricting chip equipment exports to China, Bloomberg reports

Japan and the Netherlands will join the United States in restricting the export of advanced semiconductor manufacturing equipment to China. The new export controls have significant and widespread AI industry and defense implications.
Dutch company ASML Holding will be restricted from selling certain machines to China, while Japan will coordinate its steps with the other countries’ regulatory actions. This agreement, which helps U.S.-based companies remain competitive, extends the Biden administration’s original export controls ostensibly designed to stunt Chinese military modernization efforts using AI.
