Russian Robot Maker Working On Bot to Target Abrams, Leopard Tanks
Published on January 30, 2023
Dmitry Rogozin, head of a Russian government advisory group called the ‘Royal Wolves,’ announces on Telegram that the group is working to adapt ground robots for use in Ukraine. Specifically, they are meant to target incoming Abrams and Leopard tanks.
Rogozin claimed such combat robots could ‘automatically’ detect and target tanks on the battlefield. The relevance to industry lies in the participation of the Advanced Research Foundation and company Android Technology. There is some measure of optimism, from the latter especially, that the Russian robotics industry can continue innovating even with technological sanctions leveled against the country. Others, like CNA analyst Samuel Bendett, are more skeptical.
