Tech a top item on Xi’s visit to Saudi Arabia

Riyadh used Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to the Kingdom on December 9, 2022 as an opportunity to “recalibrate” Saudi Arabia’s relations with both China and the United States. Saudi Arabia sought to shift the importance of energy in its bilateral relations to technology and cyber.

 

Prominently, the Saudi Ministry of Communications and Telecommunications signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Huawei on high-speed internet and cloud computing construction. The new deals collectively reinforce Saudi Arabia’s reliance on Chinese technologies.
