
After a year in limbo, appropriators appear to finally sink large unmanned sub program

The United States Navy’s Snakehead program - whose mission was to develop unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs) and ease submarines’ resource burdens - has been discontinued in the fiscal 2023 defense spending bill, barring future revivals.
Congressional appropriators deferred to the U.S. Navy’s judgment that the program was not worth continuing. The Navy, in its fiscal year 2023 budget request, highlighted procurement and design issues in its decision-making.
